TORONTO, October 19, 2018—BGIS is pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, it has been named as one of Canada’s Safest Employers for 2018 by Canadian Occupational Safety. BGIS was publicly recognized as one of Canada’s Safest Employers in Services category at the Canadian Occupational Safety’s awards gala in Toronto held on October 18, 2018.

Launched in 2011, Canada's Safest Employers Awards recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers. The award boasts 10 industry-specific categories, ranging from hospitality to mining and natural resources. Companies are judged on a wide range of occupational health and safety elements, including employee training, OHS management systems, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives.

“Health and Safety is a core value at BGIS. The safety of our team members is paramount to the way we operate our business, both in Canada and across the world, and this recognition is a testament to the fact that our health and safety program is fully integrated into our business”, said Mike Greidanus, President Canada, BGIS.

BGIS remains committed to maintaining a health and safety management system, integrated with their environmental management system, to ensure there are processes in place to identify hazards and evaluate risks, monitor performance and make changes as appropriate.  Each business meeting starts with a ‘Safety Moment’ in which a personal safety experience is shared with all attendees.  Team members are also trained to recognize, report and if they are able to, correct any hazards they encounter.  When a significant safety incident happens in the workplace, BGIS implements an escalation process to stop and assess what happened and identify the actions all parties need to implement to ensure it does not happen again.

“Across the business, we expect our team members, contractors and suppliers to always ‘Take 2 for Safety’, so they can ensure that they are physically and mentally engaged before embarking on any task, with the right mindset, tools, protection, procedures and support. By being recognized for a second year in a row by Canadian Occupational Safety, BGIS looks forward to continuing to lead our industry with the strongest health and safety program in Canada and around the world” said Greidanus.
